Do you know what people are searching for?
July 15, 2008 – 7:30 pmDid you know that most web analytics programs can tell you what people are searching for when they come to your site from a search engine?
Since so much traffic comes from this source, it’s worth taking the time to research this a bit.
Likewise, did you know that google has a page where you can see broad search trends in near real time?
Take a look here –> http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends.
Here are the top ten results, reported as updated 32 minutes ago:
| 1. | george steinbrenner |
| 2. | yogi berra |
| 3. | fdic.com |
| 4. | motocrossed |
| 5. | willie mccovey |
| 6. | fdic banks |
| 7. | whitey ford |
| 8. | willie mays |
| 9. | baseball hall of fame |
| 10. | all star game |
What can you do with this info? That’s debatable… and likely depends on the kind of content your site contains.
One thing you can do is simply add the RSS feed to your daily feed reading list. Over time, you’ll get a good idea of how this list fluctuates, and how it follows/reflects news and current events.
While you’re at it - check out this site, called FeedMySearch, which is a FREE, no registration service that allows you to create a clean RSS feed from most any google search, including web, news, video, blogs, local, books, images, and patents.
Now - THAT’s useful.
