Working with DotNetNuke now
November 21, 2008 – 8:24 pmWhile fighting the good fight against spammers at High Vibe It - a site that runs on Pligg, I have found myself looking for more features and flexibility. It seems nothing will ever quite match the simplicity and flexibility of WordPress, but I feel compelled to get hands on with some other systems.
At first, I was tempted to work with Drupal, and still might. From a quick look around, it seemed I might even be able to use it as a Pligg replacement, and even import my Pligg content??? That would be great, if it works that way. Another great plus in my book is that it looks like it integrates with OpenID out of the box.
But since I am looking at DotNetNuke for a work related project already, I decided to dive in and work with it first.
So for now, I have moved News That Resonates to a DotNetNuke system. I am getting the hand of configuring it, but so far, am not too thrilled with how slow it can be, and the seemingly endless list of sites that seem to offer some sort of module or skin, although I am having a hard time really understanding the versioning constraints and the like.
This is a catch 22, in so many ways. On the one hand, it’s great that there is such an ecosystem out there for this platform. The flip side is that it just makes it hard to navigate the resulting chaos.
On the plus side is the total configurability of the whole site. It’s pretty straightforward, once you get the hang of it.
Will report back as I go.
